Following a string of employee grievances and a recent strike, Bobcat Bonnie's has reached an agreement with its workers. The restaurant chain faced backlash after allegations surfaced of bounced paychecks and disrespectful management practices at the Ypsilanti location, which was suddenly closed, leaving staff jobless. In response, Bobcat United organized an emergency picket, demanding severance and the addressing of their concerns. According to a statement obtained by FOX 2 Detroit, an agreement for severance was reached between the parties, canceling the picket at the Ferndale location.
Picketing staff from both the Ypsilanti and Ferndale locations sought to make their voices heard last week. As reported by WXYZ, workers faced several issues including inconsistent scheduling and bounced checks, with one employee claiming it took nearly a month to receive a paycheck. However, a day after the strike, owner Matt Buskard expressed his commitment to improvements, stating, "Now that the picketing has concluded at the Bobcat Bonnie’s Ferndale location and we have an agreement, I want to thank the Bobcat United group for keeping things civil and professional while we negotiated a severance package for the impacted Ypsilanti workers."
Further details on the terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, but Buskard's statement, captured by ClickOnDetroit, also emphasized his dedication to listening to employees and enhancing the dining experience. He invited patrons to visit the various locations to experience the improved atmosphere firsthand.
In a display of collective bargaining power, Bobcats United called the agreement a "huge win for food service workers everywhere." Urging support for the workers and continuation of patronage at Bobcat Bonnie's other establishments, a statement from the group shared by WXYZ conveyed a stop to the emergency picket and an encouragement for customers to "tip fat!!" Notably, prior to the settlement, attempts to engage with the employees over their claims were rebuffed, a chain of events leading to the rapid resolution and planned changes at the chain's locations.
