Last Thursday evening, the Boston Police Department's Youth Violence Strike Force apprehended a suspect identified as Kenrick Dixon, a 25-year-old Boston resident, on charges related to firearm possession following a brief vehicular pursuit in the city's South End. According to an official report from the Boston Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 8:17 PM near the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Tremont Street.
Officers on patrol noticed an automobile careening at excessive speeds and attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop. The driver, later identified as Dixon, made an effort to evade the officials, initiating the chase. The pursuit concluded when officers managed to safely bring the vehicle to a standstill on Worcester Street. It was during these moments that police witnessed Dixon reaching toward the floorboard of the passenger seat, which understandably raised suspicion among the arresting officers.
Upon instructing Dixon to exit the vehicle, a pat frisk led to the discovery of a loaded "Ghost gun"—a term used to describe an unserialized firearm that typically evades traditional gun control measures. The weapon contained four rounds in its magazine. This development elevated a traffic violation to a matter of public safety, demonstrating the potential dangers routine patrols can unpredictably confront.
"Dixon was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition," as reported by the BPD.
