Earlier today, Police in Dorchester arrested a 21-year-old Boston resident, Joshua Smith, on multiple firearm charges after stopping a vehicle loaded with revelers in the area. According to the Boston Police Department, officers were responding to complaints about loud music and blocked roads due to congregating cars on Jewish War Veterans Drive when the incident occurred. Boston Police Department revealed that the group began leaving quickly as police arrived, with some individuals seen running to an illegally parked car.
In their attempt to escape, the driver ignored officers' verbal commands and maneuvered around a police cruiser before being stopped. This reckless action prompted police to activate their emergency lights and sirens. The situation was brought under control at the intersection of Jewish War Veterans Drive and Franklin Park Road. During the interaction with the vehicle's occupants, officers found a firearm with Smith, a rear passenger, after a frisk. The Boston Police Department stated that the weapon in question was "a Smith and Wesson M&P Shield with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine."
Smith now faces charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm. He is slated for arraignment at the Dorchester District Court.
