A Boulder County man, Benjamin Harmon, has been indicted on 40 charges, including multiple drug felonies and sexual offenses involving minors, following a grand jury indictment; he was apprehended on October 19 as per announcements by the 20th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
According to KDVR, the charges stem from allegations that Harmon distributed psilocybin, a psychedelic drug, as well as alcohol to at least 20 underage individuals which was initiated after a 15-year-old's tragic fall from a crane at a construction site after consuming psilocybin, the incident underscored the precarious tightrope adolescents walk when confronted with substances that promise escapism but deliver peril, sometimes irreversible in the form of death or addiction.
Further investigation into the teenager's death, who has been identified as Ames O’Neal by The Colorado Sun, revealed his fatality occurred on June 20 on the University of Colorado campus, this event was the impetus for the collaborative investigation by the University police, the Boulder County Drug Task Force, and the District Attorney’s office.
Further distressing, Boulder County DA Michael Dougherty disclosed in a statement, as obtained by Denver7, is the discovery of additional victims harmed and exploited through drug distribution orchestrated over social media apps, the extensive investigation into this lamentable incident not only brings to light the potential depth of trespass but the pervasive and often unseen tentacles of exploitation that reach into the lives of the unsuspecting youth.
All affected minors have been confirmed as high school students within Boulder County, with their guardians having been alerted to the situation, however, with the prevailing belief among investigators that more victims may yet be unidentified, this episode continues to unravel, exposing the numbing depth of a community's vulnerability.
