Brentwood is preparing to acknowledge the service of military personnel with its first Veterans Day Ceremony set to take place at City Hall on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m., as part of the City Commission meeting. Commissioner Allison Spears anticipates a memorable evening, stating, "I'm excited to announce the City of Brentwood will host its first-ever Veterans Day ceremony on Monday evening, Nov. 11, during the city commission meeting," as reported by the City of Brentwood.
This new tradition follows the successful Memorial Day event earlier this year, which was proposed by local veteran Tom Freeman. The Brentwood City Commission collaborated with Freeman's organization, Honor Our Veterans, and the Vietnam Veterans of America, Franklin Chapter, to establish the gathering. The upcoming observance aligns with the national dedication to honor all military service members, commemorated on November 11, the anniversary of the end of World War I hostilities in 1918.
Residents of Brentwood who have served in the military will be recognized during the celebration, with a special slideshow dedicated to honoring these individuals. Veterans residing within the city limits are encouraged to contribute by emailing a photo of themselves in service attire, along with their branch details, to [email protected]. The event will feature patriotic displays from the Ravenwood High School ROTC Color Guard and performances by the Brentwood High School Chamber Choir singing the National Anthem. Retired Naval Aviator and local Lt. Cmdr. Howard Rodriquez will serve as the keynote speaker.
Following the tribute, the City Commission will proceed with its standard business agenda. Guests are invited to attend a reception with light refreshments in the City Hall Annex Room, as noted by Spears. This effort to honor Brentwood’s veterans aims to acknowledge their sacrifices and include their stories in the community, ensuring that the contributions of those who have served are recognized in local civic life.
