Attention riders on the Gold Line: Starting today, you will need to temporarily reroute your daily journeys. As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has announced the closure of Brookhaven Station for upgrades through November 15, 2024. This is to facilitate the replacement of the station’s aging platform pavers, a move aimed at improving the overall commuter experience.
During the shutdown period, MARTA trains will continue to run according to schedule; however, they are set to skip Brookhaven Station. To aid travelers disrupted by the closure, MARTA is providing a shuttle bus service that will bridge the gap between Brookhaven and the neighboring Lenox and Chamblee stations. Passengers should plan to allow extra time—to the tune of approximately 15 minutes—for their commutes when relying on these shuttles.
Local bus routes, specifically numbers 8, 25, 47, and 110, will run as usual, offering alternative transit options. Moreover, for those accustomed to parking at Brookhaven, free daily parking will be made available at Lenox, Chamblee, and Doraville stations. The aim is to minimize inconvenience and maintain access to the vital transit services provided by MARTA, as stated by 11Alive.
This substantial upgrade is part of MARTA’s ambitious $1 billion Station Rehabilitation Program, which plans to enhance safety and functionality across 38 rail stations. The series of improvements under this program is expected to not only breathe new life into the aging infrastructure but to also rejuvenate the commuting experience for Atlanta's vast ridership network. For further details on the project and how to navigate the temporary closures, passengers can visit MARTA's website.
