
A Canton man was arrested yesterday after attempting to rob a Chase Bank, as reported by WKYC. The suspect, 27-year-old Zaviee K. Pledgure, was apprehended by police at the scene on the 1400 block of 30th St. NW at around 11:30 a.m.
Authorities were alerted to the incident after Pledgure allegedly brandished a weapon at a bank teller during the robbery, "numerous customers" were reportedly present inside the bank, according to WKYC. Upon arrival, officers from the Canton Police Department confronted Pledgure, instructing him to get on the ground before taking him into custody. During the arrest, police recovered $6,500 and a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun from Pledgure.
Pledgure is currently facing multiple charges, including one count of aggravated robbery and eight counts of kidnapping, as documented by court records. FOX8 News adds that the suspect is booked at the Stark County Jail, with his bond set at $500,000. He is expected to return to court on Tuesday for further proceedings.
The Canton Police Department is actively seeking additional information about the attempted robbery. In a statement obtained by WKYC, Canton Police Chief John Gabbard encouraged anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact their Detective Bureau at 330-489-3144.
