The City of Carrollton is once again calling on creative talents to transform storm drains into artistic reminders about the importance of protecting local waterways. The city has launched the second installment of its Storm Drain Art Contest, inviting participants to adorn the drains at Pioneer Park with eco-themed designs.
This initiative encourages submissions from all kinds of artists, whether individuals, organizations, or returning participants from the inaugural contest. Anyone aged 12 or older is welcome to enter, with minors requiring a guardian's consent.
The theme of the contest centers around environmental stewardship, with participants asked to design artwork that reflects messages about preventing stormwater pollution, conserving drinking water, or cherishing nature. All submissions must be original, free of advertising or political messaging, and appropriate for public display. Entries are due by January 15, 2025.
"Storm drain art is a unique opportunity to support art in the community as well as raise awareness about protecting our water supply," said Andrea McClure, Carrollton’s Stormwater Coordinator, as per the City of Carrollton.
A selection committee will choose five winning designs, each of which will be installed on storm drains around Pioneer Park. Winning artists will also be featured on the City of Carrollton’s website. Additionally, the public will have a chance to vote for a ‘People’s Choice Winner,’ who will be granted their preferred location to showcase their art.
