To improve public safety, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Oakland office carried out a surprise “surge” operation in Oakland and the wider East Bay region. The operation, which took place last Saturday, resulted in multiple arrests and recoveries, according to a social media post by CHP Oakland.

Underscored by Governor Newsom's recent announcement on enhancing law enforcement efforts, the CHP's operation involved over 60 personnel, including aerial support units. Their one-day crackdown proved significant, yielding 22 arrests, with five being suspected felonies, 21 impoundments of vehicles, and the recovery of 16 stolen vehicles – one found with the suspect still inside. Law enforcement also managed to recover four firearms, three of which were unserialized "ghost" guns. Additionally, these officers engaged to pursue and stop three instances of hazardous driving behavior quickly.

Enforcement efforts extended to swiftly responding to multiple sideshows and hazardous events that can pose serious risks to participants, bystanders, and other motorists alike. As part of the crackdown on such activities, CHP personnel made five arrests linked to sideshow involvement. These operations are part of the CHP's broader commitment to curbing illegal and dangerous automotive activities within the community.
