Runners lace up your sneakers. The inaugural Clarksville Half Marathon and 5K is about to take over the streets this weekend. Come Saturday, November 2, nearly 850 athletes will pace through the picturesque routes of Clarksville for the event sponsored by Hankook Tire Manufacturing Tennessee, as reported by the City of Clarksville. But with the foot race comes a caveat for residents — road closures and detours starting bright and early.
As announced on Clarksville's official website, southbound Riverside Drive is tumbling down the shutters on traffic at the stroke of 5 a.m. to accommodate the marathon route. At the heart of the city, Liberty Park will remain inaccessible until the last runner has cleared Cumberland Drive.
The Clarksville Police Department is enhancing safety by stationing officers at key intersections as road closures take effect. Starting at 6:30 a.m., downtown Clarksville and roads near Austin Peay State University will display 'Road Closed' signs. Franklin Street will be closed at its intersections from First to Fourth Streets, extending to Seventh Street, with police managing the influx of runners and spectators.
Strawberry Alley will close at its intersections with First and Second Streets, and Main Street will also be closed at First, Fourth, and Eighth Streets, per the City of Clarksville. Officers will be present early in the day, particularly at the intersections of College Street and Riverside Drive, to ensure the event runs smoothly and safely. This effort aims not only to manage participants but also to protect the community members and bystanders attending the event.
