
On the still-dark streets of Columbus, Ohio, tragedy unfolded early today when a 16-year-old boy was fatally shot, local law enforcement officials report. The Columbus Police Department, responding to a call, discovered Me’Khi Keys with a gunshot wound around 12:03 AM on E. Weber Rd. Despite rapid emergency response, Keys succumbed to his injuries at Riverside Hospital at 12:35 AM. The Columbus Division of Police shared these details in a press release, which serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle to curb gun violence in the city.
Authorities are piecing together the moments leading up to the incident. According to the release, Keys was walking eastbound alongside another juvenile when they met two unidentified individuals. A brief, fateful exchange ensued before one of the males revealed a handgun and fired at Keys. Subsequently, the two suspects fled on foot, possibly heading south down Howey Rd., as they left the scene.
In their call to the public, Columbus Police are seeking assistance in identifying the assailants. They urge residents with cameras near the 1000 block of E. Weber Rd. or Howey Rd. South of E. Weber Rd. to review and submit footage that might have caught the incident. The community can upload videos through a link provided by the department or scan an attached QR code found within the Columbus Division of Police media release.
