A gas leak caused by a construction crew striking an eight-inch gas line has led to the shutdown of the northbound lanes on FM 620 east of Lake Travis. The incident was reported by CBS Austin and confirmed by Lake Travis Fire Rescue's social media update at approximately 11:45 a.m.
The specific location of the incident is at the intersection of FM 620 and Ranch Road 2222, with closures affecting traffic in the 6400 block of FM 620. FOX 7 Austin reports that Comanche Trail remained open and is being suggested as an alternate route. The disruption has prompted warnings of significant traffic delays in the surrounding areas.
While Texas Gas Service technicians are currently on site, they have not provided an estimated time for the road to reopen. Lake Travis Fire Rescue is advising motorists to seek out alternative routes to circumvent the area affected by the gas leak. This precaution is intended to minimize congestion and the risk that comes with potential exposure to the gas leak.
As the story develops, additional updates are expected to be provided by local authorities and the responding utility services. In the interim, drivers are cautioned to be patient and to expect heavy delays as the situation on FM 620 unfolds.
