Garth Brooks, the renowned country music artist, has been embroiled in a legal battle after a makeup artist who was previously employed by him filed a lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault and battery. According to a court document obtained by CNN, the artist, identified in the suit only as "Jane Roe," alleges that Brooks raped her in a Los Angeles hotel room in May 2019 and committed other acts of sexual impropriety both at his residence and during work-related travels.
Amidst her tenure working for the country star, Roe describes multiple instances where Brooks allegedly exposed himself and engaged in inappropriate conduct. Trapped alone in a hotel suite with Brooks, Roe detailed an incident in her lawsuit, stating, "Ms. Roe could not believe that Brooks had booked a hotel suite with one bedroom and she did not have a separate room," as reported by CNN. This was during a Los Angeles trip where they were the sole travelers on Brooks' private jet, the complaint notes, diverging from their usual travel arrangement which typically included other passengers.
In a statement to CNN, Brooks vigorously denies the allegations and frames them as an extortion attempt, stating, "Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of — ugly acts no human should ever do to another." His defense maintains the accusations emerged subsequent to a rejected request for salaried employment and medical benefits by the alleged victim.
Earlier, Brooks had taken legal action to prevent Roe from making her claims public, an attempt Roe's attorneys have deemed as an act of desperation. "Defendant's allegations are not true," Brooks' previous lawsuit states, aware of the potentially "substantial, irreparable damage such false allegations would do to Plaintiff's well-earned reputation," as revealed by KXAN News. Roe's legal team fires back expressing confidence that "Brooks will be held accountable for his actions."
