An intense family dispute escalated into violence on October 30, when Crestline resident Clifton William Bedore, 45, reportedly assaulted his brother with gym equipment and then proceeded to barricade himself, armed, within their home. According to a KTLA report, the altercation originated over a disagreement concerning a cell phone and the care of their elderly mother.
During the incident, Bedore allegedly used dumbbells and a two-by-four to assault his brother, before retreating to the third story of their residence. In a statement obtained by KTLA, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department divulged that Bedore threatened to "burn the house down," while also endangering law enforcement and anyone who approached, with an improvised incendiary device and a loaded firearm. The tense situation led to a prolonged four-hour standoff with deputies.
Details provided by the Twin Peaks Sheriff's Department explain that Bedore ignited the homemade incendiary device during the standoff and poured what was believed to be a flammable liquid inside the home. Simultaneously, medical personnel safely transported Bedore's injured brother and their mother to a local hospital to receive medical care.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division took the lead in establishing communication with Bedore. After extensive negotiations, he surrendered and was taken into custody with no additional incidents. "After approximately four hours, Bedore surrendered and was taken into custody without incident," the Twin Peaks Sheriff's Department release stated. Subsequently, Bedore was subjected to a pre-booking medical exam before being booked at West Valley Detention Center.
