The City of Dallas has issued a stern warning to the Dallas HERO group, instructing them to cease the unauthorized use of official city materials in their political campaign. Dallas HERO has been employing a photograph featuring three Dallas Police Department officers alongside the City's trademark and logo to advocate for amendments S, T, and U on the upcoming November ballot. This action, as reported by the City of Dallas, has led to a formal cease-and-desist letter from the City.
At the heart of the controversy is a photograph that presents the officers adorned in their uniforms, complete with the DPD badge and insignia that, without prior authorization, Dallas HERO has been using. The officers themselves did not consent to have their likenesses used, and the City did not grant permission for the use of its protected symbols. In employing these materials, Dallas HERO has seemingly overstepped the boundaries set by the Dallas City Code.
The cease-and-desist letter explicitly demands an immediate halt to the use of the photograph and City emblems by Dallas HERO. This encompasses all forms of media where they might appear, including digital, printed, and online content. The City has made it clear that it maintains no affiliation with Dallas HERO and has not endorsed the group’s activities or political stances.
