Hawkins, who was 30 years old at the time of his death, was fatally shot in a restaurant parking lot located in the 9600 block of Skillman Street on the evening of May 1, 1999.
As per the details shared by the Dallas Police Department, the confrontation that led to Hawkins' murder occurred around 10:25 p.m. The suspect, a Latin male, is described to have been between 17 and 20 years old, with a lean stature and a hairstyle that was short in the front and longer, shag-style, in the back. He was seen wearing a checkered shirt, and light blue jeans, on the day of the incident.
