The Dearborn Economic Development Department encourages locals to tend to outdoor maintenance before the chill of winter sets in. The initiative starts on Monday, Sept. 30, and stretches till Friday, Oct. 11 offering residents a helping hand in sprucing up their properties.
Code enforcement officers are tasked to proactively reach out and support homeowners and businesses alike in dealing with common issues like trash buildup, uncut grass, and seasonal storage needs. In order to truly help residents prepare, the City wants everyone to quickly address these concerns before the snow hits.
Renault Arseneau, the Code Enforcement Manager, remarked on the campaign. "Sweep Weeks are a reminder to our residents about the importance of fall clean-up and maintenance responsibilities to prepare for winter. We are here to help residents as they begin cleaning up debris, preparing their yards by storing summer and seasonal items, and providing upkeep on yard maintenance, tall grass, and weeds," Arseneau stated in a release from the city government's website.
When it comes to enforcement, the City's approach is to nudge rather than shove. If a code enforcement officer spots a property that's not quite up to snuff during Sweep Weeks, they'll first try to inform the resident or business owner about what needs to be done to rectify the situation. It's only when those friendly reminders don't result in action that a notice of violation might be issued – a step up from an immediate ticket, at least.
