In a Northside Jacksonville home on Thursday evening, a woman was found dead by a visitor seeking refuge from Hurricane Milton. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to the scene on Pheasant Drive shortly before 6 p.m., where the woman was pronounced dead by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. According to First Coast News, the victim was discovered unconscious, and efforts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is trying to determine the cause of death and understand the relationship dynamics within the household. Initial information suggests that the deceased was found by someone who intended to wait out the storm with a family member. "Right now, we don't know the circumstances surrounding the incident or the relationships of those involved," the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office conveyed in a statement obtained by News4Jax.
The identity of the woman and the details surrounding her death remain undisclosed as authorities continue their investigation. A family member associated with the residence has been taken to the Police Memorial Building for questioning. Since the classification of the incident is still pending, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has not indicated whether they suspect foul play or if this may be a tragic natural death.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with additional information to contact them directly or use channels like CrimeStoppers. They emphasize this as they proceed cautiously in this ongoing case, "Right now, we don’t know the circumstances surrounding the incident or the relationships of those involved," as mentioned by Action News Jax.
