Community members in Denton County are extended an invitation to attend the Denton County Fire Chief Association’s Annual Firefighter Memorial Service. The commemorative event is set for 10 a.m. today and is open to the entire public, per an announcement on the official Denton County website.
Denton County Judge Andy Eads is slated to deliver the opening remarks, with Chaplain Kenneth Wells of the Lewisville Fire Department tasked with presenting the invocation. The program includes the traditional posting of colors, the pledge of allegiance, and a flag-raising ceremony. Chief Kevin Richardson of the Coppell Fire Department will have the honor of introducing keynote speaker Chief Kenneth Hedges of the Denton Fire Department, as reported by Denton County's official announcement.
As part of the service, there will be a poignant reading of names dedicated to fallen firefighters, followed by a moment of silence, and the ceremonial “Striking the four 5s." This tradition, deeply ingrained in fire service history, signals the last alarm for firefighters who have died in the line of duty. The service will also include a wreath presentation accompanied by the emotive strains of “Amazing Grace” played by pipes and drums, establishing a somber tone for remembrance.
