Authorities have made a significant breakthrough in the case of a September shooting that ended in tragedy on Detroit Street. Devante Demarcus West, 28, has been charged with capital murder after being arrested as the primary suspect in the incident that claimed the life of 53-year-old Anastacio Cantu, as City of Houston News reports. The charges were filed in the 496th State District Court.
According to the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division, the events unfolded in the early hours of September 11, when Cantu managed to call 9-1-1 after being shot at approximately 3:10 a.m. Responding HPD officers, alongside Houston Fire Department paramedics, found Cantu at the scene and quickly transported him to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The identification of West as a suspect was part of an ongoing investigation by the HPD, although at the time of Cantu's death, there were neither suspect nor vehicle descriptions available. West's involvement was later uncovered, leading to his subsequent arrest and the current charges he faces, according to the City of Houston News.
