Tomorrow, the Douglas County Courthouse will host a Halloween event from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., where children of all ages can collect treats from decorated departments. This annual tradition is part of the Teal Pumpkin Project, which accommodates kids with food allergies to ensure everyone can participate.
Trick-or-treaters will need to follow guidelines at the courthouse event. The courthouse has stated that toy weapons are not allowed, "toy weapons (guns, knives, swords, pitchforks, or any sharp objects) are prohibited and will not be allowed in the courthouse," according to an announcement from the Douglas County. Parents should ensure their kids' costumes are appropriate for the courthouse and that plastic weapons are left at home.
For those concerned about allergens, the Teal Pumpkin Project promotes non-food items or allergy-safe treats. The courthouse participates in this initiative to accommodate trick-or-treaters with dietary restrictions. "Can't wait to see what costumes our little trick-or-treaters come up with this year! We look forward to hosting them," exclaims the courthouse in their official announcement.
