Redmond's beloved winter tradition, Redmond Lights, is set to once again bathe Downtown Park in a warm glow of artistry and community spirit. From December 7 to January 6, 2025, the public is invited to engage with various free art installations that promise to enrich the season's festivities. In a statement obtained by Redmond Washington's official website, Mayor Angela Birney said, "I’m always excited to see Downtown Park transform each December, as Redmond Lights fills the space with vibrancy." The celebration demonstrates the city's commitment to nurturing local talent and fostering a sense of togetherness.
The festivities officially kick off with a family-friendly event scheduled for December 7, from 4 – 8 p.m. at Downtown Park. Eager attendees can freely expect to be met with welcoming activities suitable for all ages, a medley of culinary delights, and a magical "snowfall" experience at the Buoyant Pavilion. To intentionally stretch the revelry, the event path will connect Downtown Park to the Redmond Town Center via the Redmond Central Connector, featuring pop-up performances and community booths that further celebrate the city's vibrant character. Meanwhile, the Town Center will complement the occasion with Santa photo ops and giveaways.
As night falls over the festivities, artworks by local artists Anika Goyal, Britta Johnson, Foxlight Labs, Jason Miller, Kari Whiteside, and the Seattle Design Nerds will come alive, casting Downtown Park in their imaginative luminescence. The Seattle Design Nerds are known for their interactive installations, often interweaving technology with design to create immersive experiences. Alongside these striking displays, three artistic videos by Argot Chen, Claire Scherzinger, and Emily Tanner-McLean will also project their unique visions onto the Buoyant Pavilion's canvas.
The synergy of creativity and local enterprise is apparent as Redmond Town Center also plans to host a children's coloring activity throughout December, further nurturing the artistic inclinations of the community's youth. This endeavor is made possible by a coalition of sponsors, including Experience Redmond, Amazon, Microsoft, and BMW. Local support is evidenced through contributions from businesses like BECU, Leafguard of Seattle, Nicole Lamphier State Farm Insurance, Knit Studios, and 4Culture. These sponsors are not just financing an event but investing in the tapestry of Redmond's cultural landscape.
Further information and announcements about the Redmond Lights festival can be found on the official City of Redmond website, ensuring residents and visitors alike can navigate and to truly engage with the artistic journey that the city has planned for this celebrated annual affair.
