The City of Durham is observing Veterans Day with closures and service changes across municipal operations. Officials recently announced that non-emergency City facilities, including City Hall, will be closed on November 11. According to the City of Durham website, this will also affect waste management, parks and recreation programs, and parking services.
The Solid Waste Management Department will pause operations on the holiday, delaying collections for garbage, recycling, and yard waste by one day. Collections that usually happen on Friday will now take place on November 18. The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and Household Hazardous Waste Center will reopen on November 12. Residents can sign up for updates or service reminders on the department's webpage or through the Durham Rollout app, as reported by the City of Durham.
The Park Durham Customer Service Center will be closed, but the city is offering free parking in on-street spaces, as well as some garages and surface lots, for downtown parkers. For those attending special events and looking for parking information, the Special Event Parking Calendar on the City’s website provides important details. GoDurham and GoDurham ACCESS will maintain their regular weekday schedules and continue providing services as usual, as stated by the City of Durham.
Parks and Recreation will be closed on Veterans Day, including their administrative office and facilities. For questions about programs or events, locals can call 919-560-4355 or visit the department's webpage. Although the Durham One Call center will be closed, residents can report issues or make requests online, through the City of Durham One Call app, by texting 919-813-6315, or leaving a voicemail at 919-560-1200. Staff will address these requests on the next business day. For GoDurham service updates, call 919-485-RIDE (7433), use the Transit App, or check online.
