An Eagle Pass man has been sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for methamphetamine trafficking, officials said today. Ines Adrian Guevara, affiliated with the violent street gang Partido Revolucionario Mexicano (PRM), was handed down a 19.5-year sentence by a federal court in Del Rio for smuggling over 10 kilograms of the drug into the United States from Mexico, as announced by U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza.
The 25-year-old was arrested in April 2021 during a vehicle inspection near Eagle Pass, after U.S. Border Patrol agents detected the smell of marijuana emanating from his car. A search resulted in the discovery of 21 bundles containing 14.5 kgs of methamphetamine, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas. Guevara had reportedly been tasked with transporting the contraband from Piedras Negras, Mexico, to San Antonio.
The Drug Enforcement Administration conducted the investigation that led to Guevara's prosecution, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Brett Miner heading the case.
