The Eden Prairie community is in mourning after a search for an 11-year-old autistic child ended in tragedy. The Eden Prairie Police Department (EPPD) announced that a body, believed to be that of Mohamed Mohamed, was found in a pond near the boy's home on Sunday evening.

Mohamed, who was non-verbal and last seen wearing only a diaper, went missing earlier in the day, prompting a large-scale search operation. In a desperate effort to locate the child before nightfall, the EPPD and Eden Prairie Fire Department (EPFD) deployed search teams, including K-9 units, drones, and a State Patrol helicopter. Local residents were also asked to scour their properties and review any camera footage that might aid in the search, reported The Eden Prairie official website.

The search was called off after the discovery close to 9:30 p.m., and the EPPD is now working alongside the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Water Patrol, and, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner to uncover the details surrounding the incident.

Community members who assisted in the search were thanked by law enforcement, who acknowledged the outpouring of support during the arduous search efforts. "We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Mohamed during this incredibly difficult time," EPPD said in a statement.
