
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applicants for their upcoming 2025 Volunteer Wildland Fire Crew Academy, as per a recent news release. The six-week course set to run from February 5, 2025, to March 12, 2025, aims to equip individuals with the necessary skills to take on the challenges of wildland firefighting. With classes scheduled for Wednesday evenings and weekend days, the program concludes with the graduates receiving their Firefighter I Certification.
Applicants interested in joining the Academy have until November 20, to submit their applications. The program is part of the Sheriff's Office's efforts to engage with and bolster the local community through volunteer services, which become increasingly vital as El Paso County's population grows. Volunteers are essential in helping the Sheriff's Office meet the escalating demands for public safety services, and the Sheriff's Office continues to welcome active citizens to contribute their time.

All applicants must have attained the age of 18 by the time of their application, undergo a background check, and pass a truth verification examination. A commitment of a minimum of 80 volunteer hours annually is also a part of the requirement set forth by the Sheriff's Office.
