Howard County Police have apprehended a 17-year-old male from Ellicott City in connection with the homicide of Kendrick McLellan, whose body was found shot to death last Saturday in Columbia. According to a Howard County news release, the unnamed juvenile has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder and is currently facing related charges.
The arrest occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m. at Howard High School, where the accused attends as a student. Authorities discovered a loaded gun in his backpack at the time of his apprehension. Of note, the suspect was already under the supervision of the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services due to a prior incident and was wearing an ankle monitor. Despite this arrest, police are still on the lookout for a second suspect implicated in the crime, whose identity remains unknown.
Earlier, officers on routine patrol stumbled upon McLellan's body at 2:14 a.m. in a vehicle parked on the 8800 block of Centre Park Drive. McLellan, a Baltimore resident aged 26, was found to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Further investigation deduced that the shooting had taken place nearly three days earlier, last Wednesday, at the very same location where he was discovered.
The investigators have reason to believe that there was an acquaintance between the victim and the suspect, although the exact motives for the shooting are still under scrutiny. The Howard County police are urging anyone with information regarding the second suspect to come forward.
