Ellis County has a new deputy sheriff in town, and his name is Kelton Thomas. The Ellis County Sheriff's Office announced via a social media post that Sheriff Brad Norman officiated the swearing-in of Thomas, a former Detention Officer who has been working for the citizens of Ellis County since August 2018. Looking forward, Thomas is set to undergo a comprehensive 17-week Field Training program paired with a training officer for hands-on experience.
Thomas’s transition from Detention Officer to Deputy Sheriff wasn’t overnight. His journey included enrollment at the North Texas Council of Governments Police Academy earlier in May, as detailed in the sheriff's office's social media post. This training prepared him for the real-world scenarios he would encounter on patrol. Sheriff Norman celebrated the occasion, inviting the community to welcome Deputy Kelton Thomas to the Patrol Division.
