After a storied 25-year run as a Southern California motorsports staple, Irwindale Speedway and Dragstrip is hitting the brakes on its operations. The venue, renowned for its capacity to host various events from NASCAR races to demolition derbies, will officially shutter after the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Tim Huddleston, President of Irwindale Speedway & Event Center Inc., reflected on the venue's legacy and its significance to the motorsport community. "Irwindale has been more than just a track. It's been a home and gathering place for racing enthusiasts worldwide," he said, in a statement obtained by NBC Los Angeles.
As reported by FOX LA, the curtain will close with a major "Farewell Extravaganza" on December 21. This finale is expected to feature the cream of high-speed entertainment including NASCAR short-track races and a Drift Invitational. Tickets for the farewell event will go on sale starting November 8, providing fans one last hurrah to experience the thrill that Irwindale Speedway has provided over the years.
Irwindale's significant tract of land, measuring 63 acres, was acquired by IDS Real Estate Group in 2022, and plans for an industrial business park are already in motion to replace the site post-2024. "This historic event will be Irwindale's biggest and most thrilling celebration yet, a fitting tribute to the legacy of a track that has defined West Coast racing for 25 years," as stated by CBS Los Angeles.
