San Francisco's Mission district residents faced an urgent evacuation this morning following a natural gas leak that prompted a swift response from emergency services. According to a KRON4 report, the leak occurred when a private contractor struck a natural gas line near the intersection of 24th and Hampshire streets. The resulting danger led the San Francisco Fire Department to clear four nearby apartment buildings as a precautionary measure.
The San Francisco Fire Department communicated through their official X account the ongoing situation, confirming that streets within the area of 23rd to 25th on Hampshire and Potrero between 23rd and 25th were closed to traffic as PG&E and emergency crews worked on the scene, Muni services, including routes 33 and 48, faced disruptions as a direct consequence of the gas leak, showing once again how fragile our urban infrastructure could be in the face of such unforeseen incidents.
