On the South Side, a residential fire broke out in New Homestead, prompting an urgent response from local emergency services. Pittsburgh Fire, along with EMS and Police units, were dispatched to a blaze located at 4500 Marina Drive just shy of 1:15 p.m., as reported by the City of Pittsburgh Public Safety blotter. The fire, which originated on the home's back patio, quickly engulfed the structure, raising alarms and necessitating a second alarm level of response.
Despite efforts to contain the spread, one individual sustained injuries while attempting to extinguish the flames quickly. The victim, an adult male, received burns to his hand and was subsequently transported to the hospital, where he remains in stable condition. No other inhabitants were present at the outset of the fire. Two additional residents arrived on the scene after the fire had commenced and were not harmed. Firefighters valiantly battled the fire and declared it under control in under sixty minutes.
After the flames were put out, investigators began looking into the cause. The Red Cross is helping the family by providing temporary housing as they recover.
