A tragic incident occurred in Hernando, Mississippi, involving a confrontation between an individual and the Federal Bureau of Investigation that resulted in a fatal shooting. According to WREG, the shooting took place at the Super 8 hotel on Sloans Way yesterday morning. The FBI has confirmed one fatality from the encounter, but no agents were injured.

Tony Stanton, who witnessed the unsettling events, works near the Super 8 Hotel. He noticed FBI Special Agents parking at his job site and wondered why people were parking there since they were not open. Stanton reported, "I knew where some of them were at because I wondered why people were parking in our lot because we’re not open and they said they were waiting on something." As the situation escalated, Stanton and his employees heard what sounded like four gunshots, prompting him to warn everyone to take cover. After the shooting, agents were seen interacting with a Tan SUV, which Stanton recognized as having been parked in the area for several days, as per WREG.

The FBI's Jackson Field Office has issued a statement in the wake of the shooting, indicating that the matter is being taken seriously and is currently under review by their Inspection Division. "The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously. In accordance with FBI policy, the shooting incident is under review by the FBI’s Inspection Division. As this is an ongoing matter, we have no further details to provide," the statement detailed by both FOX13 and Action News 5 read. At present, due to the ongoing investigation, no further details have been released to the public.

This incident has raised concerns about the presence of federal agents in Hernando and disrupted the lives of local residents and visitors. One visitor from Georgia had to find alternative accommodations due to the Super 8 motel being closed after the shooting. The woman shared her experience with FOX13, stating, "We were staying at the Days Inn. They were funny about giving us towels each day, so we decided to book one up here. And then we come here, and there is yellow tape everywhere. Very triggering for me because of my past experiences with trauma."
