A fire broke out Saturday at The Gun Store & Range, a gun and shooting range store at 4788 Navy Road in Millington, Tennessee, with no injuries reported as crews worked to bring the flames under control. The cause of the blaze remains unclear.
Millington and Shelby County fire crews responded to the commercial fire, according to officials cited by WREG, which published photos from the scene. The station's report, credited to reporter Sarai Bennett, said the cause had not yet been determined as of Saturday afternoon.
The Gun Store & Range operates under Federal Firearms License number 1-62-157-07-5H-14813, held by parent company Veterans Tactical Solutions LLC, which holds a Type 07 license as a manufacturer of firearms other than destructive devices. The Navy Road location operates both retail sales and a gun range, according to the licensing registry.
Federal Rules Kick In For Any Damaged Inventory
Because the business is a federally licensed firearm dealer and manufacturer, any destruction or loss of firearm inventory during the fire would trigger specific reporting obligations. Under federal regulation 27 CFR § 478.39a, Federal Firearms Licensees must report any theft or loss of firearms — including inventory destroyed or unaccounted for during a structural disaster — to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and local police within 48 hours, using ATF Form 3310.11.
Any resulting arson investigation or inventory review would fall under the ATF's Nashville Field Division, which covers all of Tennessee and Alabama and deploys certified fire investigators and industry operations investigators. Whether the fire caused any damage to firearm stock at the store had not been determined as of publication.
A Store Known For Community Ties
Just four days before the fire, on September 1, The Gun Store & Range announced it had built and donated a custom red-white-and-blue 5.56 AR-15 rifle alongside Veterans Tactical Solutions to support the local Alpha Omega House for military veterans, according to a post on the store's Facebook page. The business has frequently highlighted veteran initiatives and custom gun builds.
The store also has an established relationship with local first responders. In April 2025, it hosted a fundraiser raffle for a custom wood-burned flag, with all proceeds donated to the Millington Fire Department. Municipal records also show the City of Millington approved sign modifications for the 4788 Navy Road property in May 2026, after its previous nonconforming signage was damaged during storm weather.
Second Major Navy Road Fire This Year
Saturday's fire marks the second major commercial structure fire on Navy Road in 2026, following a March 12 blaze that destroyed local vehicle customization business Insideout Car Audio, a fire that required multi-agency containment from Millington, Shelby County and naval base fire crews.
The Millington Fire Department that responded to Saturday's fire is led by Fire Chief Robbie Franks, a third-generation firefighter with 27 years of experience who was appointed by the Millington Board of Mayor and Aldermen in March 2026 after previously serving in leadership roles with the Memphis Fire Department, as Hoodline previously reported.
Firearm Security Remains A Statewide Concern
The incident comes as firearm security remains a broader concern across Tennessee. Advocacy organization Voices for a Safer Tennessee has reported that Tennessee leads the nation in firearms stolen from motor vehicles following 2014 legislation that permitted gun storage in unattended vehicles, with total firearm deaths in the state rising 43% over the following decade.
The fire also arrives amid a broader decline in violent crime across the region. Major violent crime across Shelby County dropped by 30.4% during the first six months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to joint data from the Memphis Shelby Crime Commission and the University of Memphis Public Safety Institute, which also found domestic violence offenses fell 34.8% over the same span.
No injuries were reported in connection with Saturday's fire, and officials have not released additional details on its cause.
