A Milwaukee community was shaken by violence at a youth flag football game yesterday, where a 47-year-old man was fatally shot. This tragic incident unfolded at South Stadium, near 11th and Windlake, as reported by FOX6 News. The stadium, which was hosting the game, was promptly cleared following the incident.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the victim succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital with what was initially described as a life-threatening gunshot wound. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed to WISN 12 News that the deceased was a man from the scene. While a 37-year-old was taken into custody, running from that area across the street, it was later determined that they were not the suspected shooter in the homicide.
Residents in the vicinity were startled by the sound of gunfire, with one neighbor recounting, "I was in my kitchen, you know, cooking and when I heard shots, I looked around the window. There was two guys," the neighbor shared in an interview with WISN 12 News. This neighbor, fearful of potential retaliation, elected to remain anonymous.
Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) thanked first responders for their quick action following the incident. "MPS is grateful to first responders for their quick response to the situation," said a spokesperson in a statement to FOX6 News. MPS reassured the public that safety is a top priority, with protocols in place to handle such events. While tensions are high, police are searching for suspects, and the community is struggling with the trauma. A neighbor told TMJ4, "There were kids all around. Some crying, some trying to get the kids out as soon as possible."
