A South Nashville residential program became a crime scene Sunday night when a shooting took place, leaving one man dead and law enforcement searching for 19-year-old Malik Turrentine for questioning. As reported by WKRN, the incident occurred at 4:13 at a residential treatment program for men located in the 1200 block of Foster Avenue. Disturbance between residents on Saturday led to the fatal event, wherein the victim, Michael Harvell, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), the conflict peaked after one resident, having been asked to leave the program after a fight on Saturday, attempted to return on Sunday and was forcibly turned away. During that tumultuous ejection, the shooting ensued, killing Harvell, who has since been identified as the father of another resident within the program. Following the shooting, Turrentine was seen fleeing the property on foot, armed and dangerous. He was wearing a gray hoodie and light blue jeans. Officers were still searching for him after the incident, according to MNPD statements covered by FOX17.

As the investigation unfolds, MNPD Public Information Officer Don Aaron has communicated with the public directly. He explained, “We don’t have a confirmation at this point on the identity of the shooter, but Turrentine is absolutely unaccounted for right now and is wanted for questioning,” said Aaron in a statement detailed by WKRN. Subsequent efforts to locate Turrentine included aerial searches by MNPD's helicopter and ground searches by officers and Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers.
