First Lady Cecilia Abbott highlighted the role of women in Texas' economic growth at the Governor's Small Business Summit in New Braunfels. Addressing over 250 women entrepreneurs and local business leaders, she celebrated Texas' more than 1.3 million women business owners. "What makes Texas special is our people," said Abbott. She stressed the state's commitment to supporting businesses of all sizes and the unique potential women have in the Texan economy, according to a release from the Office of the Texas Governor.
Abbott noted that Texas is a leading state for businesses started by Black and Hispanic women, praising their significant contributions to job creation and their roles as models of aspiration and leadership. She acknowledged how these entrepreneurs impact their communities and inspire young girls, emphasizing their investments in both their businesses and neighborhoods.
The New Braunfels summit aimed to bring together representatives from local, state, and federal offices to discuss key business issues. It offered a networking platform for women business owners to engage with experts on topics crucial for business success and growth. The event was co-hosted by the Governor's Economic Development and Tourism Office, the Governor’s Commission for Women, the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce, and the Texas Workforce Commission, all working together to promote growth among small businesses.
In addition to the in-person summit, the Governor’s Economic Development and Tourism Office and Office of Small Business Assistance offer support through online Governor's Small Business webinars. These webinars provide valuable information to help small businesses and entrepreneurs in the state. Interested individuals can access on-demand recordings of past webinars for insights on starting and growing their business ventures by visiting the state's official small business resource page.
