The state of Florida is ramping up its response in the case against Julie Sulpizio, 48, with a formal announcement that it will pursue the death penalty should she be found guilty of first-degree murder in the ambush attack that left a Lake County deputy dead. This development comes after court records revealed the state's intention, as reported by ClickOrlando.
According to WFTV, the violent incident occurred when deputies responded to a disturbance call. The August ambush took the life of Master Deputy Bradley Michael Link and injured two others. In addition to the killing of Link, Sulpizio is facing 12 other charges linked to the shooting.
The Circuit Court of The Fifth Judicial Circuit filed the notice of intent to seek capital punishment. The grand jury had previously indicted Sulpizio on several charges, including principal to first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, after an event on Aug. 6, which saw deputies responding to a report of erratic behavior and subsequently walking into a deadly ambush.
After the deadly exchange, law enforcement found Julie Sulpizio's husband and two daughters dead from self-inflicted gunshot wounds inside their home. An inventory revealed a cache of 22 guns, ammunition, body armor, and materials labeled as anti-government propaganda, as reported by WFTV. This detail underscores the deliberate nature of the attack.
Sulpizio's indictment extends beyond the murder charge, as it includes counts of attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, conspiracy, and multiple counts of battery. She currently remains in custody without the possibility of bond.
