Former President Donald Trump and his running mate, J.D. Vance, will mark their presence in the Chicago area this week, albeit at separate events. Trump is set to engage with the Economic Club of Chicago in a session co-hosted with Bloomberg News on October 15, where he will be interviewed by Bloomberg's Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait at an undisclosed location in downtown Chicago. The event will be live-streamed on the Economic Club’s YouTube channel, NBC Chicago reports.
Vance, the Ohio Senator complimenting Trump on the Republican presidential ticket, will precede his partner with a fundraiser in Chicago's suburbs on October 14. As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, the details of Vance's fundraiser are still being finalized, making this instance just another day in the campaign hustle as the duo chase down the election calendar.
This series of appearances follows Trump’s previous Chicago visit in July, where he drew controversy for his remarks at the National Association of Black Journalists' convention. He sparked outrage when he spoke on Vice President Kamala Harris' racial identity and on pardoning Jan. 6 rioters. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, there has been no commitment from Harris to attend the Economic Club event, though she has been invited.
While the stump continues in likely and less likely battleground states, Trump remains ensnared in controversy due to his spreading of falsehoods. One such false claim is the alleged inadequate federal response to Hurricane Helene. The Economic Club of Chicago did not disclose how or if Trump will be fact-checked during the Chicago event. During a debate on September 10 with Harris, Trump criticized ABC News moderators for correcting his inaccuracies multiple times.
