A former employee of St. Xavier High School has been charged with six counts of sexual battery after allegedly engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student, as per announcements made by the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office. The individual in question, Emily Nutley, aged 42, served as a teacher and program supervisor at the institution, a role specifically dedicated to aiding students facing academic challenges.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, the relationship between Nutley and the 17-year-old male student evolved to include after-hours communication, which included the exchange of nude photos and sexually explicit messages. Despite the student's attempts to cease the encounters, reports indicate that Nutley continued these interactions. In a statement obtained by WLWT, Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers described the actions as "absolutely unacceptable and reprehensible conduct" and emphasized the commitment to prosecute the case thoroughly.
The gravity of the situation was emphasized by Powers, who stated, "This child was in need of help and guidance but instead found an adult looking to act out her perverted sexual desires." This quote was shared via a FOX19 report. The encounters, several reportedly transpired on school grounds, including Nutley's office, were unearthed due to an internal investigation by St. Xavier High School, which triggered a subsequent criminal investigation led by Springfield Township Police.
St. Xavier High School, having terminated Nutley's employment at the commencement of the criminal investigation, released a statement articulating its belief that these events represent an isolated incident. It reinforced its dedication to student safety and well-being, urging anyone who believes they may have been failed by the institution's staff to come forward. "We remain committed to providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for our entire St. Xavier community," President Tim Reilly conveyed in a release shared by both WLWT and FOX19.
