A tragic incident unfolded on a stretch of road in East El Paso, where a young soldier's life was abruptly ended in a motorcycle crash. 22-year-old Alexis Montalvo, identified as a Fort Bliss soldier, met his untimely demise late this past Tuesday night. El Paso Police revealed that Montalvo was traveling westbound on Airway at a high rate of speed when he failed to navigate a curve, subsequently colliding with a traffic sign. According to KTSM, Montalvo was thrown from his motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries.
The incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. along the 1900 block of Airway, now marked by tragedy. In a statement released by the El Paso Police, "Speed is a contributing factor in the crash." Moreover, this event marks the city's 52nd fatality of the year, which though devastating, is slightly down from the 56 deaths experienced the year prior, as noted by KFOX-TV.
Further confirming Montalvo's identity and military service, a spokesperson for the 1st Armored Division stated that he was a soldier stationed at Ft. Bliss. As reported by ABC-7, the loss extends beyond the confines of the road and into the heart of the Fort Bliss military community, who now mourn one of their own.
