Fort Collins residents, brace yourselves for a bout of construction-induced inconvenience over the coming months. The City of Fort Collins has announced the commencement of several road construction projects in the northeast quadrant that will stretch from September 2024 well into May 2025. These projects are part of a larger initiative to revamp the city's infrastructure, regulate traffic flow, and uphold the integrity of its roadways in an area experiencing considerable growth.

According to the City of Fort Collins, there will be four major undertakings, including work by Xcel Energy to upgrade gas pipelines, city-led improvements to the Timberline-Vine intersection, Mountain Vista resurfacing, and the replacement of a box culvert on Mountain Vista Drive. Mark Laken, a Civil Engineer with the city, emphasized the significance of these initiatives, "These projects represent our commitment to maintaining and improving Fort Collins' infrastructure," he said.

Beginning with Xcel Energy's gas pipeline upgrades near N. Timberline Rd. and E. Vine Dr., the project is slated to run through September and October. While no complete road closures are expected, flaggers will manage the traffic when necessary to ensure safety. The Timberline-Vine Intersection Project, set to start in late September and wrap up in December, will feature the widening of the intersection, new left turn lanes, and the installation of a fresh traffic signal system.

The Mountain Vista Resurfacing Project, aimed at extending the life of the road surface is scheduled for a two-week closure from Monday, Oct. 21, impacting the stretch between N. Timberline Rd. and Giddings Rd. The Mountain Vista Box Culvert Replacement Project, targeting an irrigation ditch culvert east of N. Timberline Rd., will prompt a full closure of Mountain Vista Dr. from January to May 2025 with specific dates to be confirmed.

As the city gears up to enter this period of growth and transformation, officials are recommending residents seek alternate routes to skirt around the construction sites. Updated information regarding the closures, including detailed advisories and recommended detours, has been made accessible on the city's Construction webpage. The city appreciates residents' patience and adaptability as it channels these efforts into tangible improvements for Fort Collins' future infrastructure demands.
