The City of Fort Worth is soon to proudly host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new and improved Fire Station 16, signaling a significant community upgrade funded by the 2022 Bond Program. Slated for 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, the ceremony will be graced by the presence of Mayor Mattie Parker, City Manager David Cooke, Assistant City Manager Dana Burghdoff, along with councilmembers Michael D. Crain and Jared Williams, and Fire Chief Jim Davis. According to the City of Fort Worth, the event is open to all public attendees and will take place at 5701 Lovell Ave., Fort Worth, TX 76107.
The move to kick start the construction of the new fire station comes after the City Council approved the land purchase contract in 2023, investing a total of $2.27 million. The emphasized decision to upgrade Fire Station 16 aims to not only provide a larger space but also to strategically situate it on the west side of the city for enhanced service delivery. The new location at the northeast corner of Lovell Avenue and Horne Street is believed to be less than a half-mile from the current facility at 5933 Geddes St.
The relocation and upgrade of Station 16 is critical in addressing the evolving needs of the growing Como neighborhood and aligns with Fort Worth’s broader initiatives to modernize its emergency response infrastructure. The old station, standing since its inception, is prepped to be demolished to make way for modern apparatus and facilities that befit the city's commitment to safety and efficiency. With the promise of early 2026 as the operational commencement date for the new station, the community anticipates a significant enhancement in fire service responses and overall safety measures.
