A burglary in St. Johns County yesterday led to a high-speed chase through central Florida, involving multiple law enforcement agencies and four arrests. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), after being alerted about a suspect vehicle linked to the burglary, initiated the pursuit on State Road 417, which continued into Orange County, as reported by ClickOrlando.
The chase escalated when the suspect's vehicle entered a parking garage near the University of Central Florida (UCF), afterward, the driver fled on foot, prompting a search involving several law enforcement agencies. A later update by the FHP confirmed the apprehension of Maurice Campbell, 27, Winston McKnight, 25, Ronald Vassell, 27, all of Broward County, and Madison Rodriguez, 20, of Hialeah. According to investigators, there may be at least one more suspect at large and the public has been asked to come forward with any pertinent information.
In a separate account provided to WESH, UCF student Dom Batista described the scene at the parking garage, where he witnessed the arrests. "When we first heard that there were people, we kinda felt a little endangered, so we didn’t go inside," Batista said. "Also, what was going on when they were getting the people out of the car, it happened right in front of us." His proximity to the event, at the Current Orlando apartments, provided a firsthand account of the aftermath of the chase.
Following the frenetic pursuit, which saw the suspects' vehicle driving recklessly across multiple roads, even traversing the wrong way – the four individuals were charged and expected to face the court today. FHP disclosed that Campbell, McKnight, and Vassell were charged with resisting an officer without violence, while Rodriguez was charged with aiding escape, a felony.
