The City of Frisco is plotting to bring a touch of Broadway to North Texas with its latest leap into the art world. In collaboration with the Prosper Independent School District (PISD) and theatrical heavy-hitters Broadway Across America / Broadway Dallas, Frisco is set to potentially develop a new Frisco Center for the Arts (FCFA). In funding news that should give Frisco residents some comfort, the city council has deemed it necessary to leave the decision to approve this shiny new facility in the hands of voters.
The ambitious FCFA project features a 2,800-seat performance hall geared to host everything from Broadway shows to large community events. Also part of the plan is a smaller, 300 to 400-seat community hall intended largely for PISD use. Future artists and rehearsers take note: the proposed center, whose location remains up in the air, will also include various support and visual arts spaces. According to the City of Frisco, over two thousand PISD students from Frisco are already poised to benefit from the facility.
With a total budget cap of $340 million for the project, PISD has stepped up to the budgetary plate, promising to contribute a hefty $100 million from its 2023 Performing Arts Center bond funds. Frisco is eyeing private and philanthropic contributors to cover the rest, in a bid to avoid piling on to residents' property taxes. "The City of Frisco has envisioned a performing arts hall for two decades," Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney said, as per the City of Frisco. "We’re really excited about the possibilities."
