An inmate from the Oʻahu Community Correctional Center (OCCC) is currently on the run after not returning from a work furlough program. Shaun E. Fleetwood, a 43-year-old man, was supposed to return to Module 20 at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, but failed to do so. According to a news release from the Office of the Governor, Fleetwood's disappearance has prompted alerts to both the Department of Law Enforcement (DLE) Sheriffs Division and the Honolulu Police Department.
Fleetwood is described as being 6 feet tall and weighing approximately 177 pounds, with green eyes and normally shaven brown hair. He is currently serving time for second-degree sexual assault. With his parole hearing scheduled for December, the inmate was afforded the liberty to temporarily leave the correctional facility under the work furlough program.
The charge for escape, a Class B felony, carries a weight of up to five years in prison if Fleetwood is convicted. The work furlough program from which he absconded is part of a system that privileges community custody—the lowest classification status for inmates—allowing eligible participants more freedom as a step towards their eventual release.
Authorities are encouraging anyone with information on Shaun E. Fleetwood's current whereabouts to quickly make contact with the Sheriffs Division at 808-586-1352.
