Fulfilling a vital community need, the Fall Fresh Mobile Market has successfully completed its second week at the West Hunter Street Baptist Church. The initiative, spearheaded by Mobile Market Coordinator Shirley Dodd, continues to make a significant impact on food deserts within the region. The program’s dual approach involves providing nutritional education and distributing free produce, aiming to tackle both knowledge and access barriers related to healthy eating.
"What we do is we go into food deserts and teach a nutrition class and then give out a bag of free produce," Dodd explained in an interview with the Fulton County Government. The free produce initiative is not just about food distribution; it's also an educational effort, ensuring that recipients are equipped with the knowledge to make healthier eating choices.
The response from the public has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the community’s appreciation and need for such services. Age inclusivity is considered, with the Mobile Market welcoming all individuals who are at least 18 years of age. "Everybody's welcome and you have to be at least 18 years of age to participate in this program, but it's an excellent program because it brings fresh produce and vegetables into the community," Dodd added, as reported by the Fulton County Government.
Ensuring everyone has access to nutritious food options remains a top priority for both Dodd and the broader efforts of the Mobile Market program. For more information about the Fall Fresh Mobile Market, including dates and locations, visit the Fulton County Government website.
