The Garland Public Library has just wrapped its very first "One Book, One Garland" community read event, a program designed to bring residents together through literature. The inaugural book of choice was “Hard Country” by Reavis Z. Wortham, a New York Times bestselling author hailing from the area. According to the City of Garland, the event saw residents engage in a variety of book-related gatherings that celebrated reading and discussion.
Highlighting the end of the one-month-long reading festivity was an evening with Wortham himself, attracting more than 60 avid readers who listened as the author shared insights and personal anecdotes. The book club discussion, another feature of the event, drew in nearly 48 attendees, adding to the shared experience of the community. Similarly, for those with a writer's spark, a writing workshop brought together 14 aspiring writers who gleaned knowledge and inspiration from established scribes.
CrimeCon, held on September 28, was another exhilarating facet of the program, enticing 50 crime story enthusiasts with a full day of genre-specific excitement. These events not only served as a platform for literary appreciation but also for fostering community spirit. Reports from the Garland Texas official website indicate that the event succeeded in bringing the residents together for a thought-provoking and enjoyable literary initiative.
