In a bid to bolster energy conservation, restore the community’s tree canopy, and inject a little more nature into our concrete sprawl, Garland residents are being offered a free tree. This eco-friendly initiative is part of a collaboration between Garland Power & Light and Garland Parks & Recreation, according to the City of Garland.
Registration for this earth-friendly giveaway starts bright and early at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9. And it's a case of first-come, first-serve, with the offer lasting right up until the saplings are all snug in their new homes or out of stock. The pickup day for these bark-bound buddies is penciled in for Saturday, Nov. 2.
Only one tree is available per household. There's an array of tree varieties to choose from: Cedar Elm, Chinquapin Oak, Redbud, and Vitex, are the contenders for a place in one's yard.
