Garland, Texas, had a momentous night at the Texas Downtown Association Conference held in Abilene, as Downtown Garland scooped up three President’s Awards at the President’s Awards Gala on Tuesday. The city was lauded for its transformation into a hub of economic growth, public promotions, and striking public improvements. Among the accolades was the coveted President’s Award for Best Economic Game Changer, which the City of Garland attributed to the revitalization of Downtown Garland's square. The project aimed to entice foot traffic, and stimulate business and was recently voted the People’s Choice Award for Best Economic Game Changer.
Moreover, the President’s Award for Best Promotion was bestowed upon Downtown Garland for the Square Grand Opening event. It was an extravaganza held back on Oct. 14, 2023, featuring performances including a drone show, and country artist LeAnn Rimes. "The Square Grand Opening captured the excitement and spirit of Downtown Garland, making it a destination for all," reported the City of Garland. The event was central to Garland's strategy to market the newly rejuvenated area and attract a large crowd, which, was successful.
The fruits of Garland’s labor were further celebrated with the President’s Award for Best Public Improvement. This highlighted the extensive work crafted in Downtown Garland, including the addition of family-friendly spaces like a playful water feature and an event space. The total investment for these improvements exceeded $25 million, aimed at creating interactive public spaces for residents and visitors alike.
