An officer-involved shooting in Chamblee, Georgia, has led to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) launching an inquiry at the request of the local police department. The incident, which unfolded yesterday just before 5:00 p.m., resulted in the death of a 59-year-old man, Terrell Laron Hoggro, from Lawrenceville, GA.
According to the GBI's press release, Lawrenceville Police investigators were acting on intelligence that pointed them toward a Quality Inn motel on Northeast Expressway. Their intention was to apprehend Hoggro, who was sought for numerous felony arrest warrants related to armed robberies. The arrival of Hoggro prompted swift action from the officers, but the situation escalated rapidly.
As Hoggro exited a motel room, investigators attempted an immediate arrest. This led to a confrontation where Hoggro reportedly drew a handgun from his waistband and raised it in the direction of the approaching officers. A Lawrenceville Police Department officer discharged their weapon, striking Hoggro, who was subsequently provided with medical aid by the officers at the scene and then transported to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead upon arrival.
An autopsy will be performed on Hoggro's body by the Dekalb County Medical Examiner’s Office. The GBI's independent investigation aims to offer clarity on the events that took place, with their findings to be turned over to the Dekalb County District Attorney’s Office for review. No officers were reported injured during the incident.
